We live in such uncertain times that it almost makes you wonder if things will ever be 'right' again? I know lately, I personally have felt more stress, more anxiety, and more fear than I've felt in a long time. It's okay to admit it. We need each other. We need faith. We need hope. I, for one, need God — now more than ever. Does that make me weak? No. That makes me human. Right now, we need someone bigger than ourselves to show us the way to a brighter future — a future we can be proud to leave to the next generation.
So, where do we begin? Politics aside, these changes start with us. It's the little things we do (or don't do) every day that impacts our finite world and the world around us. It starts with the way we treat ourselves, our spouses, our parents, and our children. It's our love for God and His creation. It's being honest, selfless, loving, and caring — giving of our time and talents and being there to help others in need. Yes, we can create certainty in troubled times. It starts with us right here at home.
6 ways to create certainty in troubled times:
Get up at the same time every day.
Create a morning routine and follow it — even on the weekend.
Set your clothes out the night before.
Prepare healthy 'ready-to-eat' foods to grab for breakfast. (ex. hard-boiled eggs, overnight oatmeal, fresh cut-up fruit, frozen fruit blend for smoothies, etc.)
Create a nighttime routine.
Go to bed by 11pm every night.
By creating a more stable living environment, you empower yourself to make principal-based decisions rather than emotional ones, allowing you to feel secure and confident. There's certainty in acting — uncertainty in reacting. Life will always throw the unexpected our way, but we don't have to feel powerless. By implementing these 6 organizational skills, you will become more confident and focused, and less overcome by anxiety and stress.
